When my wedding dress arrived in the mail from Etsy made in the Ukraine.. I didn't have super high expectations. Even with the 'made to order measurements', my dress was very loose fitting, pulling threads, an added train I didn't want and lack of finishing touches; I was so disheartened.

  • How much do wedding dress alterations cost in Toowoomba?

    Wedding dress alterations typically range between $900 and $2000, depending on the complexity of work required. 


    At Posy of Threads, we provide transparent pricing during your initial consultation. Simple hemming usually starts around $250, whilst comprehensive alterations including bodice restructuring, bustle creation, and multiple adjustments may reach $900-$2500. 


    We assess your specific dress and needs during your first appointment, extra alterations are sometimes recommended, these will incur an extra cost. These are only suggested to obtain the perfect fit on your wedding day.

  • When should I start wedding dress alterations?

    Schedule your first fitting 10 to 12 weeks before your wedding day at minimum. 


    This timing allows for the typically required 2-3 fittings whilst providing flexibility for any unexpected adjustments. 


    At Posy of Threads, we recommend contacting us as soon as your dress arrives to secure your preferred fitting dates, particularly during peak wedding season. 


    With 35 years of experience, we've perfected our timeline to ensure your dress is ready two weeks before your wedding, allowing for final pressing and any last-minute tweaks. 


    Steaming of your gown and veil is very highly recommended to complete your final appearance. This service is available at an extra charge.


    Posy of Threads is a highly sought after boutique and alteration service, so it is important that you book in with us once you have settled on your wedding date. It is never too early!

  • What are sample wedding dresses?

    Sample gowns are dresses that have been tried on in-store by brides or used for display purposes by designers and boutiques. 


    At Posy of Threads, our sample gowns are genuine designer dresses purchased directly from established designers - they feature the same quality construction, premium fabrics, and meticulous detailing as full-price pieces. 


    These are new, never-worn dresses available that are affordable for budget conscious brides, offering extraordinary value without compromising on quality.

  • How many fittings will I need for my wedding dress?

    Most wedding dresses require three to four fittings, depending on alteration complexity. 


    Your first appointment is for assessment and pinning (approximately 60 minutes), followed by refinement fittings to perfect the fit. 


    Complex alterations like complete bodice restructuring or vintage dress restoration may require additional appointments. 


    At Posy of Threads, we schedule fittings strategically to ensure progressive improvement whilst respecting your busy schedule and timeline.

  • What should I bring to my wedding dress fitting?

    Bring your wedding day shoes, as heel height affects hemline length, and any specific undergarments you plan to wear (strapless bras, shapewear, petticoats). 


    These items directly impact how your dress fits and drapes. We provide everything else needed for your fitting. 


    If you're planning specific accessories like a veil or belt, bringing them helps us ensure everything works together harmoniously. We also recommend bringing just one or two trusted guests whose opinions you genuinely value.

  • What if I want more changes after I've already had my final fitting?

    At the final fitting the client confirms and approves with all alterations, modifications, and customisations completed on their gown. 


    Request for further changes after approval will be subject to additional charges.
